Take Care of Feet During Holiday Travel

It seems like only yesterday that it was Halloween. Now, all of a sudden, it’s Thanksgiving. Soon, it will be Hanukah, Christmas, and then the New Year! It goes by quickly, doesn’t it?

And in the madness of the time passing so quickly, you may forget to take care of yourself as you prepare your travel plans, pack your bags, and make it to the holiday gatherings with loved ones. But maybe you should stop right there and take a moment to remember to take care of your body – especially your feet and ankles.

In this season of giving thanks and giving gifts, why not give thanks and gifts to your feet? While you travel, consider including some (or all) of these tips to pamper your (very) deserving feet:

  • Wear comfortable, supportive shoes during your long plane, train, or car ride. Too often, we think more about how our outfits will be completed by our footwear selection, and not enough time is spent on thinking about how our feet will feel. Turn it around this time. Wear and pack only comfortable shoes so that you can properly thank your feet (and they’ll thank you too!).
  • Schedule a pedicure. Whether it’s by making time to do your own at home (with sanitized tools) or by calling your favorite pedicurist (who should also use sanitized tools), give your feet a proper foot soak, toenail trim, and massage. This could be a perk you enjoy with family and friends as you celebrate the holidays!
  • Get a foot massage. Before or after (or both) your travels, ask a partner, friend, do it yourself with a golf ball. Give some relief to those hard-working muscles, tendons, and ligaments in your feet. You can also buy your feet a nice gift by going for a foot massage or buying a foot massager (yay for holiday sales!).

The best treat you can give your feet is a checkup with our board-certified podiatrist, Dr. Brandon Macy. He can assess your feet, making sure they are healthy. Come to see him at Clark Podiatry Center. You can call 732-382-3470 or make an appointment online at our Clark, NJ office so that you can treat your feet and we can keep you walking.
